Evaluating Nutritional Potential of Bio-fermented Rice Husk in Broilers Diets
A.O. Fasuyi,T.A. Olumuyiwa
American Journal of Food Technology , 2012,
Abstract: Evaluation of the nutritional potential of Rice Husk (RH) ensiled with 5% molasses at varying ensiling lengths was carried out on 360-day old chicks by feeding trials using rice husk at varying ensiling durations of 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks. Mixtures of RH and molasses were ensiled in air-tight plastic containers to ensure anaerobic fermentation. The post-ensiled RH on day 7, 14, 21 and 28 were sundried and analyzed for proximate compositions. The six formulated diets were isocaloric and isonitrogenous and fed ad libitum. Diet 1 had no RH inclusion; diet 2 contained RH supplementation without ensiling and diets 3, 4, 5 and 6 contained RH ensiled for 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks, respectively. Analysed data showed that birds on diets in which RH was ensiled for 1 and 3 weeks had the lowest FCR values of 0.54±0.2 and 0.55±0.4 (p>0.05), respectively while the highest value of 0.61±0.2 (p>0.05) was obtained for birds on diet 6 (4 weeks RH ensiling). Data on carcass and organ characteristics favoured birds fed 3-week ensiled RH. Haematological indices such as PCV, HBC, MCHC, MCV and MCH showed no significant differences among treatment means (p>0.05), indicating that the husk-containing diets at 10% inclusion levels and at different ensiling durations did not predispose the chicks to any detectable diseases or malformation. The inclusion of rice husk ensiled with 5% molasses for 21 days appeared optimum and most suitable for effective utilization by broilers considering the growth performance, haematological indices and cost analyses.
Estrous cycle and stress: influence of progesterone on the female brain
Lovick, T.A.;
Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-879X2012007500044
Abstract: the female brain operates in a constantly changing chemical milieu caused by cyclical changes in gonadal hormones during the estrous cycle (menstrual cycle in women). such hormones are highly lipophilic and pass readily from the plasma to the brain where they can influence neuronal function. it is becoming clear that the rapid reduction in peripheral circulating progesterone, which occurs during the late diestrous phase of the cycle, can trigger a withdrawal-like response, in which changes in gabaa receptor expression render hyper-responsive certain brain areas involved in processing responses to stressful stimuli. the periaqueductal gray matter (pag) is recognised as an important region for integrating anxiety/defence responses. withdrawal from progesterone, via actions of its neuroactive metabolite allopregnanolone, triggers up-regulation of extrasynaptic gabaa receptors on gabaergic neurons in the pag. as a consequence, ongoing gabaergic tone on the output cells decreases, leading to an increase in functional excitability of the circuitry and enhanced responsiveness to stressful stimuli during the late diestrous phase. these changes during late diestrus could be prevented by short-term neurosteroid administration, timed to produce a more gradual fall in the peripheral concentration of allopregnanolone than the rapid decrease that occurs naturally, thus removing the trigger for the central withdrawal response.
Effects of Parental Involvement on Students Attitude and Performance in Science
T.A. Oluwatelure
The Social Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: This study examines the attitude of students towards Biology and Chemistry. There was also a focus on the parental involvement. This research was set out find out how parental involvement influences students attitude towards and performance in the two science subjects. An attitude questionnaire developed and standardized by the researcher was used. It s split-half reliability coefficient yielded 0.59 and 0.51 for Biology and Chemistry, respectively. Three hypotheses were raised and tested. The result obtained using chi-square analysis revealed that the status of the home has implication on school learning and that performances of students in science is a function of their attitudes to the subject. The phenomena observed were discussed in the light of prevailing conditions in most of the developing West African countries. Conclusively, home influence can be a tool to enhance school learning.
Perception of Academic Integrity Violation and Examination Issues by Selected Members of the University Community

Pakistan Journal of Social Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: This research was carried out to investigate into the perception of academic integrity violation among selected member of the university community. One hundred and fifty respondents participate in the study. This was made up of 50 under graduates, 50 young graduates and older graduates (senior lecturers and professors). Descriptive research design of the survey type was employed in this study. A self-constructed questionnaire was administered to the respondents. The data obtained was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. A statistically is significant difference was observed in the incidence and prevalence of extermination malpractice and miscellaneous offences as perceived by the 3 categories of respondents (undergraduate, young graduate and old graduate), a statistically significant difference was observed in the mean perception of the nature of examinees and factors that affect them by the 3 categories of respondents (undergraduate, young graduate and old graduate). Based on these findings, it was recommended that the younger ones should embrace the ideals and the values, which were embraced by the older generation. Geometric increase of learners enrolment should be by the correspondent increase in infrastructure and adequate academic planning. Less emphasis should be placed on paper qualification. We should all embraced that great values called dignity of labour. This study suggests a bringing back into our community, high integrity in all facet of our endeavor.

Social and psychological aspects of human creativity development in educational process
T.A. Krasilo
Psihologi?eskaa Nauka i Obrazovanie , 2013,
Abstract: We consider the contradictory influences of society on the development of human creativity, which is the following. Social experience lays the foundation for creative activities in imagination development and formation of interests, needs, motivations and positive attitude to reality. This leads to the conclusion that the development of a creative personality in a “free” education is impossible. However, social experience often gives rise to internal limitations of creative ideas –and becomes a source of erecting barriers to creativity. A way to resolve this contradiction, proposed in the article, is considering as a “limiter” of creative activity not the social knowledge, but attitudes to them as unquestionable absolute rule requiring mandatory compliance. This approach allows us to look for possible ways of development of human creativity through the formation of the educational process in the course of relationship to acquired social experience as an evolving, changing system.

Clinical morphological parallels of traumatic skull

Морфолог?я , 2012,
Abstract: In article the analysis of correlation dependences between clinical displays of 78 patient with brain trauma syndroms and adapted-trophic changes of an visual, craniometrical, MRI environment was spent. It was found that the pathobiomechanical researches are expedient, but in a complex estimation of structural and neurofunctional changes, which in most cases correlate with a degree of a significance of a cerebral blood flow and in a number of cases allow to determine a conducting pathogenetical part. The visual, pathobiomechanical, craniometrical, MRI environment are does not allow authentically to determine a stage, prescription of craniosacral mechanism and to differentiate depth ofstructural changes of crani-osacral mechanism.
Phytoplankton Dynamics of River Oli in Kainji Lake National Park, Nigeria during Dry Season
T.A. Adesalu
International Journal of Botany , 2010,
Abstract: In this study, the phytoplankton of River Oli (Borgu sector) of kainji Lake National Park was investigated at the first time. It recorded total of fifty five taxa, belonging to four major divisions; Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Euglenophyta and Cyanophyta. The taxa were dominated qualitative by green algae and quantitatively by euglenoids in particular Euglena acus. The paucity of phytoplankton composition in the River Oli could be partly due to the poor light penetration into highly turbid water.
